Description:  The Western Earth Snake ranges in size from 7-12 inches.  Coloration is reddish-brown to gray.  Belly is white and tinged with pale yellow.  No other markings are evident.  Scales are weakly keeled and anal plate is divided.

Habitat:  Found in old fields and edges of woodlands.

Behavior:  The earth snakes are extremely secretive, rarely seen above ground.  They eat earthworms and soft-bodied insects such as grubs.
